30 Photography Assistant Apps for Smartphones

Any photographer that is out in a location other than home, can benefit greatly through the use of photography assistant apps.  For help with camera settings, local weather, photo locations, and other tasks that are frequently encountered during photography.   I’ve rounded up several useful offerings here, and will continue to add to and keep them up to date.

Estimated reading time: 15 minutes

Keep in mind these are utility apps that assist the photographer to use a stand alone digital camera.  These are not smartphone camera apps, photo editors or other phone based photo manipulation apps.

How this listing is laid out

This post will be arranged into several categories of apps:

  • Camera settings info and calculations
  • Weather and other environmental info
  • Location and points of interest
  • Other photography related items

Each app description box will have a logo to quickly identify the type of phone the app is for.  The description info is taken directly from the app store. There is a button below each app to go to that app’s page.

A word about ratings.  The ratings stated are end user ratings and will be based on a huge number of factors.  They could even be based on previous versions of the app where this issues they had have been fixed already.   Therefore, if the app is free or low cost, nothing beats trying it out yourself or doing some additional inline research regarding its function.
